$60,500 donation to help sick kids

In 2009 Howards presented Bear Cottage with a cheque to the value of $60,500! The donation was a result of individual and corporate donations plus 12 months sales of support products sold via Howards stores across the Australia. Help Howards support Bear Cottage by purchasing a pocket pad that includes: note pad, pen, sticky tabs, ruler and magnifying glass. All profit from the sale is donated to Bear Cottage.

Receiving no government funding,Bear Cottage is a testament to the power of community. By dedicating their time, effort and financial assistance, volunteers and donors ensure that Bear Cottage is able to continue to give the very best in care and support to families in need.

Bear Cottage

Bear Cottage is a children's hospice that provides both respite and palliative care to children with terminal illnesses, and their families, a place to stay and receive rest and medical care in a home-like environment.

Bear Cottage is located in Manly, NSW and is an extension of the renowned Westmead Children’s Hospital, Sydney. It is designed as a large family beach home with specialist medical care available 24 hours a day.

Families do not pay for any Bear Cottage services such as cooking, cleaning and medical attention. All operating expenses are raised entirely through community donations, corporate support and fundraising events.

Over the past Financial Year, Bear Cottage has had almost 300 admissions, with a 40% increase in referrals over the past 3 years.

Howards Storage World has been a proud supporter of Bear Cottage since January, 2004, having donated approximately $260,000* via a variety of fundraising initiatives. (*as at end December 2009)
